CIWM launches new strategy ‘Leading the Way to a World beyond Waste’

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) has launched its new strategy, ‘Leading the real solution to a global beyond Waste’, to support the united kingdom waste and recycling sector to advertise more sustainable consumption, minimising waste and protecting the world’s resources and environment for future generations.

The strategy outlines the role the Institution shall play in shaping the continuing future of waste, resource and recycling management, and is aligned with CIWM’s mission to unite fully, equip and mobilise its professional community to lead, influence and deliver the science, strategies, policies and businesses for the sustainable management of resources and waste.

Developed based on the US Sustainable Development Goals, the strategy is targeted on building upon CIWM’s existing assets and optimising their potential to effect lasting change. Centred around six themes, it’ll ensure CIWM continues to do something as an essential change agent for the proceed to a low-carbon and circular economy:

1. Pioneering professional standards

2. Nurturing innovation

3. Advocating having an authoritative voice

4. Enhancing engagement and connectivity

5. Cultivating communities of practice

6. Leading through excellence

In implementing this plan, CIWM says it’ll continue steadily to innovate and expand its portfolio of high-quality services while leveraging its reputation and extensive sphere of influence to open new opportunities which are in keeping with its core purpose. This is enabled by maintaining an audio, not-for-profit business and considered targeted investment.

Commenting on the launch, CIWM President, Dr Adam Read, said: “It really is clear we cannot continue steadily to live in a global that uses 60 % more resources compared to the Earth is with the capacity of regenerating. This plan positions CIWM at the forefront of the movement towards a worldwide world which consumes more sustainably, minimises waste and protects its resources and environment for future generations. ‘Leading the best way to a global Beyond Waste’ seeks to aid the rebalance of resources and accelerate the proceed to better and circular economies.”

CIWM LEADER, Sarah Poulter, added: “We shall continue to concentrate on enabling and promoting resource efficiency and the transition to more regenerative economies. A significant part of this calls for building on our respectable heritage of supporting skills development and driving professional excellence. Our support for members shall continue steadily to evolve in reaction to exactly what is a complex, dynamic and evolving environment rapidly.”
